Fatoum has just released her new album TARAWIN, which is the fruit of many years of experience in the field of music. The name of the album, TARAWIN, has been chosen very carefully. TARAWIN means sources of water. Fatoum takes us back in time when we used to go to the sources of water to get our bottles filled with water for home utilities. Girls used to sing IZRAN around the sources of water, and Fatoum was one of them. The resonance of the sounds of TARAWIN are still resonating in the memory of the artist until today.
The album is composed of nine songs which go deep in the Amazigh traditiosn especially in the Rif. Every single song of the album is going to take you on an unforgettable journey back in old times when we used to live in small communities (Tribes) among the Rifian mountains.
Fatoum is a Rifian artist residing in Brussels since her childhood. This talented artist is inspired by the Rifian traditions that she experienced in her childhood in Morocco before she moved with her parents to Belgium, where she is still living until today.
Fatoum is inspired mainly by Izran “oral Poetry”, which is one of the most important aspects of the Rifian culture. When girls work in the fields or wash cloths on the rivers, they always sing Izran in a spontaneous manner without any preparations. This helps them to overcome the hard time and neglect the effect of time when their work is overloaded. Meanwhile, izran are also a way to express their happiness when they celebrate events.
